I relaxed very quickly and could feel my mind wondering off to sun kissed beaches. Then he invited me to lie down, face up on the therapy couch and just relax. I was able to physically feel the effects of what massage did with my own hands and I couldn’t get my head around how Reiki and other forms of healing worked if there was no contact involved.Īnyhow, I was looking forward to this new experience as well as being totally intrigued.īefore the treatment began, Graeme gave me some background as to why he had become a Practitioner and a brief history of how Reiki came to be. I had never really understood how it worked and I admit that I had been sceptical about it in the past because I used to doing Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, which involved hands-on, tangible work on the body’s soft tissues. I knew it involved lying fully clothed on a couch and the practitioner would lightly place their hands on the Chakra points (energy centres) of my body but that was about it. I confess I didn’t really know what to expect. It took place while I was at a Retreat in Bali and my practitioner was a mad Irish man called Graeme. My first Reiki treatment was a truly enlightening experience.
